the sentinel of Caprera

Land on the famous island of Caprera, brimming with history and legends that fascinated both Napoleon and Admiral Nelson. Where Giuseppe Garibaldi spent the last twenty years of his life and found a peaceful escape from the battlefields, and where the Museum dedicated to him still stands today. A place of extraordinary beauty and wildness, with junipers, fragrant myrtle, and spectacular crags of granite guarding the blue waves. Along a winding path, which gives you a better view of the sea with each step, you’ll climb to the Sentinella Mimetizzata, a masterpiece of military architecture dating back to the early 20th century. Carved entirely from pink granite, it holds an ingenious system of walkways, watchtowers, machine gun turrets, tunnels, caves, cisterns, magazines, and barracks for soldiers. After soaking up the extraordinary views, you can enjoy a delicious meal of local wines and specialties in the evocative fishing port of Cala Gavetta.

The excursion includes the shuttle from the Retreat to the port of Palau; the ferry to La Maddalena; entrance to Caprera; a tasting menu of local foods in a traditional inn. A multilingual guide is available.
